A note from founders on the transition

A note from founders on the transition

We are very excited to share that we have transitioned Magpie Goose to Aboriginal ownership and leadership!

We are thrilled to introduce you to the new Magpie Goose owners, Troy Casey and Amanda Hayman of Blaklash Creative.

Troy and Amanda are a powerful Brisbane-based creative entrepreneurial duo we have long admired, for their work in creating new platforms for the sharing of First Nations culture. Amanda has cultural connections to Kalkadoon and Wakka Wakka Country and Troy is a proud Aboriginal man from Kamilaroi Country north-west New South Wales. Alongside their work with Blaklash, they are co-owners of Open House Collective in Brisbane (stockists of Magpie Goose!) and directors of Aboriginal Art Co.

During the past few years of running Magpie Goose we’ve constantly been exploring and evaluating the best ways to grow our impact in line with our mission. Last year we approached Amanda and Troy with the opportunity to take over the ownership and leadership of Magpie Goose. We believe they are best placed to lead the growth of the business into a globally recognised brand.

From a personal perspective, we’ve recently had a baby so are looking forward to taking a bit of a step back, working as part of a bigger operational and creative team, and sharing the load.

We launched the business in 2016 and the start up phase has been exhilarating and exhausting! Over the last almost five years we poured everything we had into creating this platform to showcase the immense talent that exists in remote Aboriginal communities. It has been a privilege to work with a vast network of collaborators to share these incredibly unique stories with a growing audience in the form of wearable art.

We have always seen ourselves as stewards of the brand so we are incredibly grateful to be able to pass the baton on to Amanda and Troy to lead the next stage. Their vision and leadership will enable the business to soar to new heights! We’ll continue to work in the business in strategic and creative roles, and mentor and support new team members.

We look forward to introducing you to the new team as we all work together to author the next chapter in the Magpie Goose story.

The increased capacity in the business will mean more fabulous collections, more behind the scenes content, more pop ups and events, and more opportunities for remote artists. We are so very excited!!!

Troy and Amanda will say g’day in the next post and introduce you to some of the new Magpie Goose crew.

We’d like to say a big thank you to you, our incredible Magpie Goose community, for championing this brand and all that it stands for - we look forward to all that is to come.

Love, Laura + Maggie
