Artist: Kumuntjai Nampitjinpa Dixon

Kumuntjai Nampitjinpa Dixon was a Luritja and Pintupi artist; born in 1943 near Talaalpi: country east of Walungurru on the Western Australia / Northern Territory border. She was an established artist who exhibited widely around Australia and the world. Her late father was one of the original Papunya Tula painters. Prior to painting, Kumuntjai worked for many years at the Kintore School teaching the young girls dancing and the traditions of the desert people. She was a “dancing woman” who traveled widely to participate in annual ceremonies and “Women’s Law” meetings. She was a lead singer in the Sydney 2000 Oympics. Her personal Tjukurrpa (Dreaming) was Tjilkamata - the porcupine. Her story is told in bright colours often utilising orange and yellow to mirror the ochres that are used in ceremonial body painting. In her Tjukurrpa story there is often the porcupine scurrying about rock holes and hiding places looking for tucker while nearby the women are themselves hunting, laying in wait for the porcupine

Art story: Tali Tali (sandhills)

Kumuntjai depicts the Tali Tali (sandhill) Tjukurrpa (Dreaming). She referred to the vast and desolate sandhills of her country near Taalalpi, which is located beyond the Kintore/Kiwikurra road near the West Australian and Northern Territory border. This is the country where her father and mother used to travel by foot when she was a young girl. The place is still of great spiritual significance as it contains both, personal and tribal law to which Kumuntjai related in her work. When it rains at Taalalpi, water collects between the sandhills, providing sustenance for her porcupine. Tjilkamata (porcupine) is Kumuntjai’s own personal Tjukurrpa (Dreaming). She returned to her country for a visit in late 2005.

Art centre: Ikuntji Artists

Ikuntji Artists is located in Haasts Bluff community, which is 230km west of Alice Springs, in the West MacDonnell Ranges. Ikuntji Artists was the first art centre established for women of the Western Desert art movement. Ikuntji Artists has many internationally renowned artists, who are represented in galleries and institutions around the world. Their art is famous for bold colour choice, decisive brush strokes, and rich cultural storytelling.

* This chart refers to your body measurements (in cm) Actual garment measurements can be found on each individual product page.

HOW TO MEASURE YOURSELF TO FIND YOUR BEST FIT:

Use a measuring tape. Alternatively, you can use a piece of ribbon/string and then measure it with a ruler afterwards.

Don’t hold the tape measure too tightly to your body, you should be able to breathe comfortably when measuring.

It makes things easier if you do your measurements in front of a mirror or if you have a friend to help you out.

Take your measurements over bare skin or in your underwear.

Note: it is a good idea to take into account what underwear you normally wear. For example: if you normally wear a padded bra, it’s best to measure whilst wearing that bra as the padding can quite dramatically alter your measurements. Similarly, if it is a style that you wouldn't normally wear a bra with, measure over your bare skin.

Bust:

With your shoulders relaxed and arms by your sides measure the largest point of your bust, ensure the tape measure is held level around your back.

Waist:

Relax (don’t breathe in!) and measure the narrowest part of your waist, if you are unsure, bend sideways and where you ‘bend’ is a good indicator.

Hip:

Stand with your feet together. Measure around the  widest part of your hips and bottom. Ensure you keep the tape measure level.

HOW TO USE GARMENT MEASUREMENTS TO GET YOUR BEST FIT:

Each of the Magpie Goose product pages will have some key measurements of that specific garment and advice about the fit (eg. oversized, true to size etc).
To put it simply, you want your BODY measurement to be SMALLER than the GARMENT measurements. You want to allow a few cm extra for “breathing space”.
A good way to check your desired fit is to get your favourite pair of pants and check the waist measurement on those. You can do the same thing for the bust measurement of a top, etc.

Beautiful print can dress it up or down

This print was beautiful and the material surprised me (was stiffer than I thought it’d be) but in an amazing way! It can easy be dress up with a nice blazer or made casual with a cool tee. Absolutely love this shorts!
