Goodbye from Maggie and Laura

Goodbye from Maggie and Laura

It feels like a lifetime ago when Laura asked me over a beer in Darwin, "what would you be doing if you weren't working as a lawyer??" That was in April 2016 and my answer, "something with the incredible textiles that are being produced by remote communities" led to the founding of Magpie Goose, and the incredible journey that followed.

It’s been a privilege to work with artists + cultural storytellers from remote communities across Australia. To date, Magpie Goose has partnered with 58 artists from 14 communities, generating close to half a million dollars in licensing payments to artists + their communities.

Magpie Goose has always been a collective effort. Its existence has been made possible by an incredible community of passionate artists, customers, partners, suppliers, friends and family. Laura and I always saw ourselves as stewards of this brand, growing it up from an idea into a sustainable business. In late 2020, with the business in a stable position, we were able to begin the process of transition that would see Amanda and Troy take on the responsibility of stewarding the Magpie Goose brand.

Knowing that running this business is no easy feat, we have been blown away by their dedication and commitment to taking this on. Over the last 18 months we’ve been involved in a thorough handover process, supporting them (and the new team) to learn all the ins and outs (of which there are many!).

And now it's time for us to go!

So in this final message from me, I’d like to say a big thank you from Laura and I to everyone who has supported this brand and played a role in creating the magic that is Magpie Goose. And huge gratitude to Troy and Amanda, for your love and trust and leadership.

Be Brave. Make Change.

Maggie
