We’re so excited to bring our online offering to the streets with our very first brick and mortar store which opened this week in Bowen Hills, Meanjin/Brisbane.
We co-designed the flagship store with our other business, Blaklash (using a designing with Country framework), and architectural design practice Hogg and Lamb, who have expertise in retail spaces. It was realised through the generous support of Lendlease. Mandandanji woman Erin McDonald, the Design and Interiors Principal at Blaklash, led the design process.
We commissioned Lardil man Gareth Robertson, of Blackwood Collective, to craft a four meter artisan table for the centre of the store. Made from Tasmanian blackwood, the table acts as an invitation into the Magpie Goose home – a place where one can sit down, have a cuppa and a yarn. With each garment telling a story, there is a lot to share at the table. From this centrepiece, the rest of the design was imagined.
Speaking to the deep connection to Country, the store features repurposed boulders from the local area. The beautiful multi-coloured rock is tuff, ubiquitous with Magandjin / Meanjin (Brisbane) and most visible at the Kangaroo Point cliffs. The rest of the store leans into natural tones and simple design features to keep the spotlight on our bold and vibrant Magpie Goose garments.
Magpie Goose is thrilled to join the exciting King St precinct along with other great retailers, bars and restaurants. Having an opportunity to welcome visitors to the store on a daily basis, we hope to spark more conversations, more learning and more exploring of the rich stories of the artists we collaborate with. The grand opening will be a perfect opportunity to connect with Troy and Amanda, and the extended Aboriginal community that supports the brand. Come and say g’day!
