Apere (River Red Gum) by Janelle Driver

Apere is Arrente language for river red gum. People here use the eucalyptus leaf for medicine, drinking and smoking ceremonies. I like the smell. I chose to draw it because it is important for a lot of Aboriginal cultures. My dad told me that he used the leaves to cook kangaroo but nowadays everyone uses aluminum foil. There are lots of different types of trees and this native gum is found in my home in the territory.
