Blak Boi by Casey Coolwell-Fisher

"The Australian Grass Tree (or Xanthorrhoea) was once referred to as a ‘Black Boy’ tree. This is a special tree which plays a very integral part in our culture, through the making of fire sticks, supplying of food and weapons, creating resin/glue and so much more. Grass trees stay resilient and have stood the test of time despite the uproar of bushfires. The title of this artwork is ‘Blak Boi’ because I also wanted to acknowledge our ‘blak’ boys and men who are strong and resilient." Casey Coolwell-Fisher
