Marita McMillan

My name is Marita Buldara McMillan. I am an Arrernte woman. My birthplace is Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa), southeast of Mparntwe (Alice Springs). I grew up and went to school there. Then we went to Sandy Bore, our Country, and it’s still our home today. I have lived in Ewyenper Atwatye (Hidden Valley) for 65 years and paint at the art centre.

I am an early childhood Arrernte educator and we take kids to their homelands all around Alice Springs. We share stories about the land. The land is our mother, it provides for us and protects us; the hills and the creeks and underground water. We share our culture and pass it down from generation to generation.
