Yerrampe (Honey Ant) by Janelle McMillan

I used to go hunting out bush with my grandmother and my aunty for Yerrampe (Honey Ant). It is what our mob eats instead of honey from the bees. It's hard finding the right ants. You have to follow the little ants, and they will show you the directions and where to go to find the bigger ones. It's hard work because you have to dig until you find them. It's easier after the rain, but when it's dry, you have to dig through tough ground. The ants can get as big as marbles. We eat some straight away, and also take them back home to share with the family.
