Aheyenenhe (Snakes) by Cassandra Neil

"I like to paint snakes because I love the patterns on its body. I am scared of snakes but only the poisonous ones, but this artwork is of a harmless python. Not all snakes are bad. My cat once brought in a small python after she was playing with it. They come out when it’s warm weather. When you go to Desert Park you can see snakes there but I also take the kids to the reptile centre so they can see and touch them. I recently helped children write and illustrate a book called ‘Apmwe Iwenhe (What Snake?) and it teaches Arrernte language and also opposite words because there is a fat snake and skinny snake, long and short snakes and more. The snake on this outfit is a bright snake! It will make you stand out in a crowd." Cassandra Neil
