“I’m a proud Gumbaynggirr woman, and the ocean has always grounded me and my family. I grew up hunting and fishing with my aunties; women who shaped my understanding of culture, survival, and joy.
In this piece, I wanted to honour that matriarchal energy. The bold textile print comes straight from my mural practice, taking up space, making our stories visible, decolonising. The overalls reflect who I am as an artist and as a Blak woman today: practical, active, always in motion, always ready to show up.” Aretha Brown
