Woven in History by Kyra Mancktelow

This elegant design by Kyra Manktelow honours the weaving practices of Quandamooka women, featuring depictions of Gulayi (women’s dilly bags) that reflect generations of cultural knowledge and skill.

The woven bags, traditionally made by hand using natural fibres, are reimagined here through screen print, transforming their texture and form into a bold, bright and contemporary textile. Each bag carries a story of making, gathering, and connection - representing the strength and care embedded in everyday cultural practices. 

Woven in History celebrates the enduring role of women’s knowledge, and the ways these traditions continue to be seen, shared, and worn today.
